YouTube Masthead ads open to licensed gambling brands
Google has updated its policy so that, from 21 October 2026, licensed online gambling operators can run campaigns in YouTube's Masthead.
What the Masthead is
It is the most prominent advertising position on YouTube, at the very top of the home feed. The format changes across desktop, mobile and TV screens, and video ads in it usually start muted.
- Effective 21 October 2026.
- Google's gambling advertising policy still applies.
- A licence or certification is needed for every targeted country.
Who qualifies
Advertisers must comply with Google's gambling rules and hold a licence or certification in each country they target. Unlicensed operators cannot buy the slot.
Bigger picture
The move comes as campaigns against gambling ads gather pace in the UK, Australia and the US, and while Meta faces criticism – including from the UK Gambling Commission – over illegal advertising. See also our article on Paf and Meta's pilot.
